AN OFFERING OF NATURE

How to read Aleppo soap?

The physical characteristics of the soap evolve throughout drying, mainly due to the permanent saponification reaction. Certain criteria can guide us to recognize a high quality soap by eye.

For example, here on the right is a high quality soap made by one of the famous families in Aleppo. On the left, a low quality imitation, with, as we can see, the same name.

To go even further, we are going to make a comparison between an Aleppo soap which is part of the Savon d'Or collection (soap no. 1) and a low quality soap (soap no. 2).

Exterior color

The darker the color on the outside, the more the soap asserts its maturity and its proportion of laurel oil.

The composition of the soap will also play a role in the color, in particular the oil used extracted from a first pressure (more vigorous) or a second pressure. Generally, soaps are made from oils from the 2nd pressure, because the first pressure is allocated for food use.

Interior color

After cutting a soap in two, the bright green color indicates a younger soap and therefore less mature.

Outer layer thickness

The wider the width of the sapwood (outer layer), the more the soap has dried and therefore matured. As you can see in the photo (soap no. 2), the thickness of the outer layer is thin. Unlike soap n°1 which has a much thicker outer layer.

Low content of laurel berry (2% to 20%)

This content is suitable for daily use. More economical, it can be used for washing hands, body and hair.

The high content of olive oil forms a skin tissue which will cover the skin. Its moisturizing attributes help keep skin pores oxygenated. It is also recognized as an anti-inflammatory, which can be perfectly suited to sensitive or irritated skin.

For household uses, such as laundry or cleaning, it makes more sense to use an economical soap. A low content of laurel berry is sufficient in this case.

High content of laurel berry (20% and more)

With a greater composition of laurel berry, the soap will necessarily have a more purifying action on the skin.

Considered anti-bacterial, it helps to deeply cleanse the skin. In fact, this soap is also recommended for people with skin blemish problems.

Thanks to its antiseptic properties, it blocks the proliferation of bacteria responsible for acne. Its disinfectant action eliminates the sebum responsible for blackheads and pimples.
