Who is Savon d’Or?
A RESPONSIBLE ART OF LIVING
A rebellious brand
With the onset of the information age, Aleppo soap attracted increasing global interest. As the public becomes more demanding and becomes aware of the importance of human well-being, it begins to show more and more interest.
Unfortunately, since the end of 2011, the clashes in Syria have suddenly stopped the production of Aleppo soap. As global demand remains as high as ever, the authentic Syrian houses manufacturing this soap quickly find themselves unable to meet this global demand. Various third parties have found this misfortune as an opportunity to enter this long-protected market. Unbeknownst to the Syrians, this soap is being copied and imitated in various foreign countries very far from Syria. Without necessarily respecting ancestral methods, which gives a result penalizing the reputation of real Aleppo soap.
Indeed, real soap must be made in the Aleppo region, with olive oil and bay laurel specific to the region. All cooked with experienced Syrian hands from authentic houses . Various factors, such as climate and ingredients, are essential conditions and allow for a noble and authentic result.
However, today when you look for Aleppo soap, you find a little bit of everything. On the internet, in supermarkets or in stores, the situation has become worrying. This abundance of low-end soap, often boosted by marketing, endangers Aleppo soap. Savon d'Or was born from a desire to rebuild and protect the reputation of this famous “Green Gold” as it is called in Syria.
A clear objective: to restore Aleppo soap to the throne that belongs to it!
The city of Aleppo is currently going through a very difficult period. Savon d'Or aims to preserve the heritage of this beautiful city of which the Savon d'Or team is a part. It is up to us, Syrians of the world, to defend our local heritage against the imitations and low-quality manufacturing that flood today's market.
Our experience and know-how is made available with the aim of selecting the elite soaps that the Alépin region can offer to the world.
To achieve our objective, Savon d'Or remains transparent and independent. Values that will allow us to become a trusted reference among the general public.
Independence and transparency
The quality of the Savon d'Or label is due to several factors, we explain:
– The soap-making families of Aleppo: generally behind a brand and its marketing, there is a fixed partnership with a supplier. Therefore, a brand represents a single family and only exhibits the products manufactured by that family. Its name is indicated by a seal stamped in the middle of the soap. At Savon d'Or, we have no contract with suppliers. We have no obligation to suppliers, nor can we be influenced to favor one family over another. The only motivation to purchase from a manufacturing family is the quality observed. Quite simply because we cannot rest our trust solely on the family name, we must integrate other selection factors, such as the quality of the ingredients used each year. Therefore, we have the luxury of not being confined to one family, but of having the choice and selecting only what we consider to be the elite.
– The selection: We go to meet the manufacturing families, to select from the soaps being dried. Savon d'Or selects samples at random on which we will issue our own opinion. If the soap meets the desired criteria and demonstrates superior quality, it will be tested by a certain number of people (mainly of Syrian origin) to obtain an additional external opinion.
– drying: Aleppo soap is a soap that breathes. The latter must be dried in the old-fashioned way, positioned in the shape of a tower so that air can pass between the soaps. It requires a dry climate like the Mediterranean climate. Aleppo soap cannot dry if it is plasticized. This is why our soaps do not dry in France, only a small stock is replenished from time to time. The only goal is to reduce delivery time.
Art of living and values
“Our house is burning and we look the other way” “We won’t be able to say we didn’t know.”
Savon d'Or shares this vision of a world capable of inventing a modern and less polluting way of life. It is never too late to act in favor of the environment. Convinced that using natural-based products is the best way to preserve our body, in a sustainable and affordable way. Our business model is based on an environmentally friendly philosophy which can be summed up in three points:
“No plastic” objective: We are committed to a “no plastic” policy from the design of the soap, its delivery and all the way to the final consumer. We use ecological and recyclable cardboard for packaging.
Respect for consumer health: guaranteed by the predominant use of natural ingredients or of natural origin; the use of renewable raw materials and environmentally friendly processes in accordance with the principle of sustainable development.
Solidarity and Fair Trade: The majority of the authentic manufacturers of this soap have suffered the vagaries of the Syrian conflict. Our agreement with them allows us to give back thanks to those who produce real Aleppo soap. Since Savon d'Or is the only intermediary, the consumer pays the fair price for his purchase.
