The Savon d’or collection
It must be said that the rough shape and the varying weight (± 20 grams) are proof of manual work, identical to the ancestral manufacturing method.
Therefore, it is up to us, 21st century consumers, to adapt and accept this rustic character.
The Savon d'Or philosophy goes against a world dictated by demanding standards purely for marketing purposes.
In order to respect authenticity, these three factors must be respected as a priority (explanation in the History tab):
– Unchanged artisanal manufacturing method (know-how and maturity)
– Manufacturing in the Aleppo region (geography)
– Composition unchanged since its creation (ingredients)
For marketing purposes, this soap is too often copied and modified by adding colorings, additives or even palm oil, taking the result away from an original, authentic Aleppo soap.
First of all, it must be said that foam is not a cleansing agent, nor proof of effectiveness. The role of the foam is to facilitate the distribution of a cosmetic product. It avoids increasing friction on the body or scalp.
This characteristic is accentuated in commercial cosmetic products with the use of additives called “surfactants”.
Aleppo soap contains only natural ingredients without additives.
Aleppo soap is considered the ancestor of Marseille soap. Coming from the same lineage, it shares the same manufacturing method: hot saponification.
On the other hand, their differences lie mainly in the composition. Aleppo soap will contain olive oil and bay laurel oil. Marseille soap does not contain laurel berry. In addition, the latter does not require a drying period unlike Aleppo soap.
It is the nourishing properties of the laurel berry which will give Aleppo soap a rendering used in cosmetics. While Marseille soap can be more aggressive on sensitive skin. Therefore, it is largely better known for its effectiveness as a household cleaner.
You will find our collection only on our Online Store.
For the sake of quality and drying, we have chosen to keep our stock under cover. Any probability of poor conservation pushes us to abandon the distribution of our collection in different physical points of sale.
Aleppo soap that has dried for several years in Syria in a hot climate can lose its quality if it is poorly maintained. This is a risk we do not want to take.
Soaps should be stored in a dark, dry place (avoid damp places).
Generally, soaps are stored in the clothes cupboard to take advantage of the advantage of Aleppo soap in repelling the presence of clothes moths.
